Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Clinton County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained so the team can respond and keep needed correspondence. It is not disclosed outside the organization unless a binding legal duty requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, ordinary server and analytics systems may collect technical details about that visit:
- Page-view times and the pages opened
- Your device category and operating system
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Your browser type and version
- The device's assigned IP address
- Approximate time spent on individual pages
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help show aggregate traffic patterns, such as popular pages and points where visits end. Analytics providers assist with that measurement. A browser can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a submitted search to the appropriate outside provider
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Maintaining reliable and responsive site operation
- Measuring which resources visitors use most
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Clinton County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies request channels used by Clinton County courts, the Sheriff's Office, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not turned into a consumer report or a third-party criminal dossier. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Independent companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted to a tool is governed by that provider's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. Those decisions are outside our control, so read the provider's terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Clinton County offices, New York court portals, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy rules apply. Review them before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to observe activity across websites and tailor advertisements. Their technology, not ours, conducts that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to these limited recipients:
- Analytics vendors that measure site use and performance
- Search providers that receive queries submitted through their tools
- Advertising networks that serve material on these pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect information in our control. No internet system can be guaranteed secure, however, and this policy does not promise that unauthorized access or a breach can never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with a visitor's location. New York Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs access to existing records held by executive agencies, while 9 NYCRR Part 6050 governs review of DCJS criminal-history records. Those public-record rules do not turn this private site into a government custodian. With respect to information held by this site, you may:
- Request access to personal information we hold about you
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Seek deletion of information where applicable
- Decline certain forms of processing where the law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
